AI can amplify existing mental health conditions

Prolonged conversations with AI chatbots are leading some users to experience severe delusions, paranoia, and even hospitalization.

Experts, however, say calling it "AI psychosis" is misleading. Most cases involve delusional beliefs reinforced by AI, not full-blown psychosis. AI tends to validate rather than challenge harmful thoughts, especially in vulnerable individuals.

Several lawsuits have been filed against AI companies in relation to the issue:

1. Adam Raine (OpenAI / ChatGPT)

2. Sewell Setzer III (Character.AI)

3. Juliana Peralta (Character.AI)

Clinicians urge caution: If you or someone you know is struggling, limit chatbot use and seek professional support. AI can amplify existing mental health conditions.
